Friday Five

23 Mar

#1) On Sunday, my dad and I ran the LA Marathon.  My dad absolutely KILLED IT, finishing in 3:38, and shaving 21 minutes off his best marathon time from last year!  AND it’s a Boston Qualifying time for him!  As for me, I ran my 14th marathon and finished it.  I’m so proud of my dad and I know I’m too hard on myself, but it just wasn’t my day out there.  I tanked in the end.  No worries, though, because…

#2) I just signed up for the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon in six weeks!  Now I have six weeks of actual training to keep me busy until I fly to home-sweet-home Ohio!!!!  Sure, I’m looking forward to the marathon, but I’m really, really looking forward to getting my nails done with my nieces and sister!

#3) I’m loving my short hair.  I still need to bust out the camera and get some real pics, but for now, here’s a couple self shots from my cell (and the pony, on it’s way to Locks of Love!):

Side note: For some reason the ponytail picture grosses out all my male coworkers.  What gives?!

#4) I’m also loving having visitors and I’m getting super spoiled… My BFF from college just left after a long (way too short) weekend visit.  And my parents and brother will be here through the weekend.  Their two week visit is flying by way too fast too.  Boo!  In any case, it’s nice to have an excuse to go to Yogurtland so frequently (not that I ever really have trouble finding excuses without them…).

#5) Speaking of my love for sugar… Hubby was in Vegas, while I was in LA for the marathon.  I missed him like crazy, but he made it up to me ten fold by bringing back a ginormous bag of (some of) my favorite candies from the Sugar Factory — peanut M&Ms, sour cherry balls, banana Runts, Reese’s Pieces, strawberry Starbursts, Swedish Fish, and chocolate Tootsie Pops…  Seriously, that puppy weighed about 5 lbs. and if you guessed it was gone in two days, you’d be right!  Wish I had more sour cherry balls… sigh…

Oh well!  TGIF, y’all!

Deja vu

17 Mar

Last year, I won a blog giveaway for an LA Marathon race bib.  And with 5 weeks of “training,” I ran my sixth marathon in the absolute worst weather conditions I’ve ever run in — cold, rainy, and worst of all, windy.  It was brutal, but epic.  Of the seven marathons I ran in 2011, it was, by far, the most memorable.

With that said, dear universe, that doesn’t mean I want to relive it ever again!

You guessed it.  Tomorrow’s weather forecast for the LA Marathon 2012 is looking pretty rough.  Cold, rainy, and windy.  All I can do is laugh.

Note to self: buy rain gear.

Note to self #2: quit registering for the LA Marathon.

Anyhow, here goes nothing.

Get. Out. The. Door.

10 Mar

Got a full day planned — Long Run (hubby’s going to bike with me!!!!), another haircut* (let’s go a little shorter, why not?!), brunch, driving up to Orange County to meet new-to-the-world baby Logan, driving back to San Diego for dinner-and-drinks with some new-to-San-Diego pals, and then sleeeeep — is it sad that its barely 7am and I’m already looking forward to the sleep?

Our Sunday’s looking equally as jam-packed, so it’s time to stop dilly-dallying on the internet and get on with my day.

First up is that blasted long run… oh how I love you when you’re done, but oh how I loathe you moments before I go…

*Haircut pics are coming soon, I promise.

Oh yeah… I have a blog…

9 Mar

It’s been ages and I have a confession: I haven’t been feeling my running mojo lately.  Unfortunately, that translates into a lack of blog mojo too.  Sure, I could ramble on about other stuff, but the truth is nothing gets me chatty like running does.  We’ll try the rambling thing, though, and see how many people cancel their subscriptions to my blog…

So, apparently it’s March.  Wasn’t New Year’s, like, yesterday?  March is my least favorite month of the year for a lot of reasons.

March may not be my fave, but I DO have a lot of ridiculously awesome, fun stuff happening this month.  For starters, hubby and I are heading north to Orange County to meet our friends’ new baby, Logan this weekend.  I’m hoping the little guy cooks up a messy poo, so hubby can change his first real diaper.  Is that weird?  And next week, my best friend flies in for a visit!  As well as my family!  I love visitors!!!!  (Especially the kind I don’t have to clean for!  Okay, okay, I’ll clean for you guys…)

We’ve had some off-and-on crud weather here in San Diego and I hope it clears up ASAP, so we’ll have some leverage in convincing all of our visitors to move here already!  Am I really complaining about the weather in SD?  I should probably punch myself.

In other news, I hacked off a foot and a half of hair.  Roughly.  So now, I have a short, choppy bob.  I love it, at the same time I have no idea what to do with it.  I definitely loved my stylist, Ramona, and pinky-swear-promise I will not wait 1.5 years to get my hair cut again, but she said I should get a trim every 6-8 weeks and that just seems INSANE.  We’ll see, though.  I’m the queen of indecisiveness.  Next week, I could be deciding to go shorter!  I’m crazy like that.

Not much to say about running.  The LA Marathon’s in, like, 10 days or something.  I’m pretty indifferent about it.  It could be the fact that I really haven’t been training.  Or maybe it’s the lack of running with hubby… Or the lack of racing… Both of those things fire me up and they’ve both scaled back drastically.  Oh well.  Just gotta adapt!

Be a “get to” not a “got to” person.  Each day can be an opportunity, if you see it (seize it) that way.” (-Josh Cox)
